The Makai Course is a seaside course. There are lava areas on both courses which are played as lateral hazards. Both courses have water hazards in play. The Makai Course has several holes overlooking the ocean. The tee of #13 is near a blow hole. The fairways on the courses are fairly wide and the greens large and fast. The courses were awareded a three star rating in 1994 by "Golf Digest."
